Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
A surreal experience where you can effortlessly move in three-dimensions, often cited as being the nearest you can get to flying. Have you ever harboured an innate desire to give it a go? Now you can come and experience diving for the first time at GO Diving - and find a host of experts on hand to answer those questions you were perhaps afraid to ask. The Inspiration Stage will host talks aimed at dispelling some of the myths around diving, giving even more reasons why you would want to learn to dive. Come listen to BBC stars Andy Torbet and Miranda Krestovnikoff, from Beyond Bionic, The One Show, Coast, Wreck Detectives and Operation Iceberg, discussing how they got into diving, what they love about exploring beneath the surface, and hear about some of their underwater adventures.
Existing divers are also well catered for at GO Diving, with dedicated sections focusing on the disciplines of Underwater Photography, Freediving (in conjunction with DeeperBlue.com) and Technical Diving. Think your trim is up to scratch? Got your S-drills nailed? Navigation in the bag? Come and showcase your abilities at our interactive sessions - and see if you can beat the industry pros! There's even an area for The Next Generation of divers, all those keen kids and talented teens already attracted to the underwater realm.
Other key speakers already lined up include legendary record-breaking freediver Umberto Pelizzari, renowned Canadian technical diver and cave diver Jill Heinerth, underwater photography guru Alex Mustard MBE, TV favourite and author Monty Halls, deep-wreck photography specialist Leigh Bishop, acclaimed photographer and expedition expert Tomasz Stachura, world-famous professional mermaid Linden Wolbert, and multi-award-winning film-maker David Diley.
TELL ME MORE.
The show will be split across three days, the Friday being trade-only with an evening networking event, and two consumer days over the weekend. The trade day will feature break-out rooms for seminars, member forums, etc, and there will be presentations on how to develop and improve your online presence for your dive centre/school, utilise social media more effectively, and so on.
Over the weekend, we're looking to offer visitors an immersive experience into the world of diving!
We have two 100sqm pools offering a basic trydive, with an opportunity to follow this up with a more-comprehensive trydive at a local pool/centre in the weeks after the event, to keep prospective divers engaged and active.
The show will have four stages:
The main stage - hosted by BBC presenters Andy Torbet and Miranda Krestovnikoff, this will cover everything from all aspects of the world of diving. Already on the schedule are Umberto Pelizzari (who will also be conducting a masterclass workshop), cave diver Jill Heinerth, author and TV fave Monty Halls, award-winning underwater photographer Alex Mustard MBE, deep-wreck specialist Leigh Bishop, film-maker David Diley, expedition expert Tomasz Stachura, professional mermaid Linden Wolbert, ghost-fishing expert Richard Walker, performance development expert Gareth Lock and Chantelle Taylor-Newman, founder of The Diver Medic. Watch this space for more big names yet to come!
The inspiration stage - dedicated to getting back to basics, how to plan an unguided dive, what thermal protection to wear at what temperature, how to set-up your equipment and all those other questions prospective divers don't know and are too scared to ask. Easily accessible to anyone with no prior knowledge of diving, this stage will be a great place to start.
The technical/freediving stage - supported by the team at www.deeperblue.com, this will offer an insight into diving on a single breath (whether that's duck diving while snorkelling, or descending to 100m plus), or donning multiple cylinders or CCRs to explore far beyond recreational limits. On the freediving side of things, we have the likes of Emma Farrell and Steve Millard, with more to come. For technical diving, listen to inspiring talks from Paul Toomer, John Kendall, Mark Powell, Peter Routledge, Vikki Batten, Sophie Heptonstall, Sally Cartwright, Mike and Robert Thomas, Garry Dallas and Gemma Smith.
The underwater photography stage - this will have notable talks from the likes of BBC cameraman Doug Allan (TBC), Paul 'Duxy' Duxfield, Phil and Anne Medcalf, Mario Vitalini, Jason Brown, Stuart Philpott, Ellen Cuylaerts, Jane Morgan, Simon Rogerson, Jeremy Cuff and Martyn Guess, as well as some of the industry's fresh newcomers, including Byron Conroy and Roisin Maddison. Covering everything from just starting out, apres-dive photo manipulation through to DSLR masterclasses, we'll also have a number of Q&A sessions on both trade and consumer days.
